MUMBAI : The search giant Googleannounced the lightweight Gmail Go app for Android along with the other Go apps. The company has now rolled out the app for the Android users. The app is designed for low-end smartphones are for the regions where internet connectivity is not that great.

The app is almost identical to the original Gmail App and it offers all the important features of the original app. The list of features include -- push notification, support for multiple accounts and attachments along with others. The app also segregates and categories the emails under the header of promotional and social just like Gmail.

Along with this, the users will also get 15GB free storage from Google and the capability to read and reply to messages both online and offline. However, there are some features that the Gmail Go users will not be able to experience. For instance, there will be no automatic loading of images as it will consume more data and will also eat up ROM space. The company also claims that the app will be able to automatically block the spam mails with the help of company's in-built algorithms.

The Gmail Go app is presently available on the Google Play Store for download. But, the users need to have an Android Go smartphone or an Android handset running Android 8.0 Oreo operating system in order to use the app. Presently, the app is limited only to some countries and cannot be downloaded for all.

The Go edition of apps from Google include Files Go, Chrome Go, Maps Go and YouTube Go.

The app is listed at 9.5 MB and will take up about 24.8 MB of your ROM as against the heavier app Gmail which is listed at roughly 20 MB and takes up about 48 MB post installation.
