Now iPhone users have over an hour to delete their WhatsApp messages

MUMBAI: The popular messaging app WhatsApp, introduced the Delete for Everyone feature, which enables people to delete any message they sent by mistake. Initially, the users had the window of only seven minutes to delete any message sent. However, recently, the company increased this time limit to 4,096 seconds (or 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds). The update was spotted in the Android beta version and was expected to roll out on iOS as well.

Now, WaBetaInfo (@wabetainfo), a Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp’s beta builds reported that the company has rolled out the same update for iOS users as well.

This means that now the iOS users will also be able to delete an unwanted sent message within 1 hour. The feature works in both groups as well as individual chats.

In order to delete a message, the users have to select the particular message they wish to delete. Then the top bar on the chat window will appear with various options like mark star, reply, copy, forward, information and delete. The user then has to tap on the delete button, then it will show them the option to delete the message they have sent. You can either delete it for everyone or can just delete it for yourself. Once the message is deleted the receiver will see a message ‘This message was deleted’ and your screen will show a message ‘You deleted this message’.

Recently, it was reported that some of the users are misusing this extended timeline of delete for everyone feature. The company noticed that some of the users are using the modified version of the app and are deleting their 3-year-old messages. So, in order to stop that, WhatsApp is quite releasing a new feature called ‘Block Revoke Request’, which will prevent the misuse of Delete for everyone feature.
